 Making a Dog Tag

Last semester, for our CAD project, we were to design a keychain with our name on it ( aka dog tag) using Fusion 360.

It may not look like a dog tag or it doesn't even have my name on it. But here is my design, I took some freedom in designing it.

The keychain that I made doesn't have my name on it. Nevertheless, I think it looks cool and different from the ones my classmates made because it has a self-made design such as the wolf biting the sword and the three-word inscription "Einigkeit", "Recht" and "Freiheit". The three words mean unity, right and freedom respectively, in English. The words were taken from the German national anthem.

However, I do not have the pictures for the steps I took to design it, so let's design a new one that is just as cool! Here is the new design that I've come up with to do again.

First, we will make the shape for the dog tag.

It started off as just a generic 4-sided rectangle. To make a dog tag, we have to curve the angles by adding curve lines and then cutting the excess.

It may not be enough since there will be some form of "sharp" edges left, for this, we will use the fillet feature to soften them.

After we are done with the dog tag shape, we will now design the face of the dog tag. For the symbol, I took some inspiration from a tiger skull.

The tiger skull design was painstakingly made from scratch. I like to rely on the lines and do all the painstaking work of measuring lengths and angles myself as I feel like the labor is calming.

The writings may look like gibberish, but it is Cyrillic alphabet, the form of writing used in the Russian language. The writing reads: Sparta

Now all we need to do is to extrude the dog tag to make it 3D.

Don't forget to fillet the edges as well. Including the edges of the keyring hole.

Finally for the last step. Just extrude every detail at a higher height than the extrusion of the dog tag base.

And...we are done!!
