PhoneStand

 CADD : Making a 3D-Printed Phone Stand

Before we get started, I want to make sure that I know at least the idea of what I want my final product to look like. I drew my inspiration from Batman.

Here is the initial product:

Okay, maybe I did a little tweak to the design. I thought that the original design looked a lot like batman. So I tweaked the designed of the face to look a lot like batman.

First, the parameters. I only set parameters for the slots, this is due to the design journey. I really didn't have a plan as to how the product will finally look like. So I just went with the "flow" of designing.

First up, the parameters. Yeah I didn't actually use them.

So let's actually start
I started the design with a simple circle, this circle is crucial as it will act as a pivot  for the jaw. From the circle, I extruded it and used the "shell" modification .

I was too focused on designing the phone stand to the point where I forgot to take pictures of the process. So many of the photos do not make sense at all. That is because I took them after designing because this journey is about discovery for me. I didn't learn and apply lessons in class. Instead I try to do my own thing.

Here are the jaw and the pivot, the next step I took is to connect the jaw and the pivot.

After making the jaw, I started to design the temple. I first started to sketch using lines. I didn't set any parameters for these as like I have said, it was all about discovery and trial-and-error.

So I realized that when designing the temple, there was a design error that will not permit the jaw to open. Therefore I made some fixes into the design.

Next, I will design the handphone stand and the face. These two components will help connect the temples and jaw.

Below is the actual stand for the phone, it is a simple design. It is integrated with a protrusion to insert it to the small slot hole in the jaw.

So, that is all. Here is the download link for my design.
